Proposition 65 – California “Right to Know” Warning
Last Updated: March 26, 2026
What is Proposition 65?
California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (“Proposition 65”) requires businesses to provide a “clear and reasonable” warning before knowingly and intentionally exposing anyone in California to certain chemicals that the State has identified as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. These listed chemicals can be present in many everyday products and foods.
Our Products & California Warning
Syren Spreads chocolate products and related items may be sold or shipped into California. Because cacao and other agricultural ingredients can contain naturally occurring trace amounts of certain metals from soil and environmental conditions, and because of possible contributions from manufacturing and packaging processes, some of our products may result in exposure to lead, a chemical listed under Proposition 65.
As required by law, we provide the following warning for California consumers:
WARNING: Consuming this product can expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/food.
In some cases, this warning may be provided even when testing indicates that potential exposure levels are at or below California’s “no significant risk level” or “maximum allowable dose level.”
What This Means for You
This warning does not mean that the product is unsafe or defective, or that we expect harm to occur with normal use. It means that the State of California has determined that a listed chemical (in this case, lead) is present in, or may be associated with, the ingredients, manufacturing, or packaging of the product and therefore requires a warning so that you can make an informed choice.
Many common foods and beverages (including coffee, chocolate, and some grains and vegetables) can contain very small amounts of Proposition 65‑listed substances from natural and environmental sources. If you are pregnant, may become pregnant, have specific health conditions, or are otherwise concerned about reproductive health, you may wish to consult your physician or health‑care professional.
For more information about Proposition 65, listed chemicals, and ways to reduce exposure, please visit the official Proposition 65 website at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Our Commitment
We strive to maintain high standards of sourcing, testing, manufacturing, and labeling. We monitor changes to Proposition 65 regulations and chemical listings and will update our warnings and practices as needed. If you have questions about a specific product, batch, ingredient, or potential exposure, please contact us at hello@syrenspreads.co.
Important Disclosures
This warning applies only to products sold or shipped into the State of California. Our use of this warning follows California’s consumer‑product warning “safe harbor” language and is provided in accordance with Proposition 65 requirements. Our issuance of this warning does not constitute a determination that exposure from our products exceeds any applicable state threshold or that harm will occur.
